MI2CA 2009 Day Three: Texas Panhandle

Finally we took some photos :)

We woke up around 4am this morning so we could make it to Route 66 by sunrise. We were blessed with a beautiful sunrise. And despite getting kicked off a ranch we managed to get a few cool photos.

We stopped at the biggest cross in the western hemisphere.

After spending some time wandering around the Oklahoma / Texas border and Route 66, we took a nice nap in a field :) The sleeping bags we bought are amazing. We ate at The Big Texan, which was a total tourist trap. But we witnessed someone eat the free 72 oz steak.

Then we headed to Palo Duro Canyon, which is just south of Amarillo, TX.

We're doin some more couch surfing tonight. Staying at Andrew and Andrew's house. Yes, they are both named Andrew and they we born one day apart. And now they're best friends. Andrew Brown is a Broadcasting and Mass Communications major at Western Texas A&M. You can see some of his work here and here. The other Andrew is a medical student.

We plan to travel to Santa Fe, NM tomorrow.

  1. Jakob,
Glad to hear the billiard table of the Texas panhandle was rather eventful. When in Santa Fe, go to either Harry's Roadhouse, or Bobcat Bite which makes the greatest cheeseburger on Earth. Both restaurants are on the Old Las Vegas Highway which is the service road for I-25.

If you are on a really limited budget, go to Baja Taco on Cerrillos Road. A total hole in the wall, but great food.

Stay safe. Remember that you are in the wild, wild West!
    Yee ha!
    Don
